If you run a small business, you don't need to pay for AI to start using it. The four tools below all have free plans that cover real, everyday work: writing captions, making videos and replying to customers.
Free plans always come with limits, so for each tool we say exactly what you get, what users like, and what they complain about. Free plans were checked in October 2026; they change often, so confirm on each tool's site.
Rytr is a simple AI writer for short marketing copy. Type what you need, pick a tone, and it drafts it in seconds.
Free plan: free forever, no card needed, with 10,000 characters a month. That's enough for a handful of captions, emails and product descriptions, not daily heavy use.
It's rated 4.7 out of 5 from over 800 G2 reviews. Users like how easy and affordable it is, and the many tones and templates. The common complaints: drafts often need rewriting, it can be repetitive, and it's weak at long articles.
Use it for: quick social captions and product descriptions you'll edit yourself.
Synthesia turns a typed script into a video with a realistic AI presenter, in many languages, with no camera or studio.
Free plan: about 10 minutes of video a month with a watermark. You can't download the video file on the free plan; that starts on a paid plan. So the free plan is best for testing whether presenter videos suit your business.
It's rated 4.6 out of 5 from about 2,800 G2 reviews. Users praise how easy it is, the realistic presenters and the time it saves compared with filming. Complaints include limited editing tools, limited control over voice tone, and some reports of unwanted auto-renewals.
Use it for: trying out explainer, welcome or training videos before you pay.
CapCut is a video editor built for short videos on TikTok, Reels and Shorts, with AI tools like auto-captions, text-to-speech and background removal.
Free plan: editing, auto-captions and 1080p exports. Templates and effects marked Pro add a watermark if you use them on the free plan.
Its app is rated 4.0 out of 5 from about 12.8 million ratings on Google Play; business review sites have very few reviews of it. Users like that it's easy to learn, especially on a phone, and that the free plan is strong. The complaints are mostly about billing: confusing pricing, features moving to paid plans, and reports of difficulty cancelling.
Use it for: short promo videos and product clips for social media.
ChatGPT is the all-rounder. Use it to draft polite replies to customers, brainstorm post ideas or plan your week.
Free plan: available, with usage limits on the most capable features.
It's rated 4.6 out of 5 from about 3,000 G2 reviews. Users like that it does a bit of everything. The most common complaint is accuracy: it can state wrong facts confidently, so check anything important.
Use it for: first drafts of replies and ideas, which you then check and personalise.
Not sure which fits your business? Vetstak Match asks a few questions about your business and budget, then ranks the tools real users rate best for it. It's free and takes about a minute.
Free plans are a great way to start, but each has a ceiling. Use them to learn what you actually need. If one tool becomes part of your daily work, that's the one worth paying for, and only then.

Vetstak summarises what users report in public reviews. It isn't our personal opinion or professional advice, and some links may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. Always confirm details with the tool's provider. Prices were checked in October 2026.
