Most bookkeeping comparisons are written for businesses in the United States. If you're in Nigeria, the UK, India or elsewhere, the best choice can be different, because pricing, banking connections and accountant support vary by country.
Here's what users report about the three biggest options, based on Capterra reviews and pricing data we checked in October 2026.
QuickBooks Online is rated 4.3 out of 5 from more than 8,500 Capterra reviews. Users like the automatic bank feeds, invoicing and reports, and the fact that most accountants already know it.
The complaints come up just as often: slow support, rising prices, frequent interface changes and bank connections that drop. Pricing breakdowns also describe it as US-focused, so check what's available in your country before you commit.
Xero is rated 4.4 out of 5 from more than 3,300 reviews. Users praise its clean, simple interface and automatic bank matching, and pricing comparisons note its strong international support.
Users' main complaints are basic reports, slow support at times, and price increases or paid add-ons.
Zoho Books is rated 4.4 out of 5 from 681 reviews. Its standout is cost: pricing data lists a free plan for businesses earning under $50,000 a year. Users say it's simple and offers a lot for the price, and pricing comparisons describe it as strongest in India, the UAE and Australia.
Users mention that importing existing data is cumbersome, support quality varies and the mobile app does less than the desktop version.
Get a pick for your country. Vetstak Match asks where your business is based and what matters most to you, then ranks all five bookkeeping tools we cover, including FreshBooks and Wave.
Wave is popular because its starter plan is free, but its payments and payroll are built mainly for the US and Canada. If you're elsewhere, users' experiences suggest one of the three tools above is likely a better fit.
Vetstak summarises what users report in public reviews. It isn't our personal opinion or professional advice, and some links may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. Always confirm details with the tool's provider. Prices were checked in October 2026.
